My martec prop has a crack in the hub. I am thinking about shipping it back to Martec, but they will not give me a price to rebuild. My question is with shipping from SC to CA and rebuilding charges it may be cheaper to buy a new one. Does anyone have any experiences with rebuilding a prop with Martec.

I had mine reconditioned over the winter. The job included some problems with the shaft being welded from corosion to the hub. They charged me $150 for the prop reconditioning, and I spent an additional $200 having the shaft trued and balanced. I don't know how much they are going to get you for the hub. You can get a new prop for $480 through pyacht.com. I really thought about it, but Martec did a good job on mine and I expect another 22 years out of it. They were very friendly, very helpfull, and did excellent work. I expect that if you send it to them they'll give you an estimate. Can't hurt unless you're in a hurry

I ended buying a new martec prop as mine was in very bad shape. I did talk to the people at martec again and they were most helpful.I ordered mine along with two bullet nose zincs through Defender for a delivered price of $483.55.

Late last year we had the shaft crack at the hub and slide out of the hull enough to take on 3/4" stream of water. The location of the failure was such that it would require unbolting the shaft at the hub and sliding it out an inch or so to inspect, which I had not done in the five years I've owned the boat. I now plan to inspect this every two to three years or whenever new packing is done.
