I would like to hear about good ventalation setups people have found to work. I have a solarvent on the forward hatch but that is it. I have a solid mildew problem that I would like to rememdy.

I don't do this myself, but I know people who have slips with shore power that set up small portable dehumidifiers in their boats during the season.

Do you have a bridgedeck portlight ?

I leave mine open. Plus there are two mini dorades aft. I too have a solar vent forward.

I put a dorade on the bow that vented into the space in the bow in front of the V-berth that seemed to help. You had to take it off for racing to not mess with the jib. Also, because I mostly raced PHRF, I took the cushions off which seemed to help the mildew issue alot. I think it allowed a little more air into the lockers to keep them dry. Maybe you could just prop the cusions up a little bit when you leave the boat.

I do not have a bridgedeck portlight. I have thought about adding one. That would certainly help except I am not sure how to keep the rain out?

I have began to install small perko vents at various points around the cabin, like one on each end of the settees, around the sink, into the forward compartments etc. This should help those areas and I should not have to prop up the cushins.

Has anyone tried adding vents to the hatch boards?

I have a bridedeck port light and I use it a lot , its open most of the time, rain doesnt really comes in the boat through it, so it stays open ..

I have a nicro 24 hour vent in the restroom. AND a 24 hour solar vent on the front inspection hole. The later I put there because my holding tank was real smelly and since I put that vent there the inside of the boat is fresh ( The stink was real bad, I am planning to redo all the lines over the winter )

Boat is super dry and fresh after I invested in the 24 hour solar vents ( 3 inch dia ) Only thing one need to do once in a while is to clean the little fan, otherwise they get real loud and drive me nuts when I want to sleep in the boat

p.s. I guess one could put some stainless louvers in the door as well... but I havent seen the need for them

Thanks for the info. I am going to replace all the hatches this winter so I am going to add a solar vent to the head hatch and keep the one currently in the forward hatch. I will think about the one out to the cockpit.

If you have access to shore power, seriously consider buying a dehumidifier. They are inexpensive and small enough to slow away when not in use. I used one for many years, never had any mildew problems, and the cabin always smelled fresh.

Unfortunatly my boat lives on a mooring or on the jack stands. I live in Marblehead, MA and it is dry during the winter so I have them cover the boat down to the toe rail with about a 1 inch gap so the boat will vent. I then leave the hatches cracked. By spring the boat is really nice and dry but then it is back out to the mooring and the moisture.
