Has anyone used the plastic mounting bracket that TackTick supplies with their displays? I almost had heart failure during a race this weekend when a crew member bumped a display mounted by the regular "instrument cluster" and it popped off the bracket. Fortunately it fell in the cockpit and not overboard. I'm thinking there has to be a way to lock these in place better, but maintain the flexibility to remove them for storage. Any ideas?

Bill - I have not had this happen. Maybe it was not seated all the way to begin with. They are pretty hard to get off when you are normally removing them so I bet it was not put on correctly.

I have Tack Tick displays and if you make sure it "clicks" in the Dovetail bracket the connection is pretty strong and even a hard bump should not dislodge it. With a hard bump you would probably pull the three screws out that hold the mounting plate to the bulkhead before you separate the instrument from the mounting bracket. I tend to agree with prior post that maybe the instrument was not seated in the bracket fully.

Anyone use TackTick wind instruments? Are they any good? reliable? accurate?

I find them quite accurate upwind/down and true/apparent. They are really nice. I had an issue right out of the box but they replaced the masthead unit and have not had a single issue since.

I second David's post. I haven't installed the through-hulls yet and will do that when the boat is hauled at the end of the season. The integrated network is really good. I've got my GPS networked with the NMEA interface, the wind transmitter and racemaster compass. Everything is very accurate and worked right out of the box. I "auto-networked" everything on my workbench before taking them to the boat. No problems getting them to talk and bring up whatever info I want displayed. I've only had them a month so can't speak to the reliability, but after researching them, you'll see others have commented favorably on the reliability.
