The 2nd source for the one-design rudder was discussed at the Board of Governors meeting at the Annapolis 2007 NAs. Look at my post (8th one down) in this thread with the report I gave on this topic at the SNE District meeting in November: https://j30.us/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php/topics/1242/Re_J_30_Southern_New_England_M.html

Thanks Bill, good work! Since that was 5 months ago, surely there has been some resolution. Any update to share? Due to the scarcity of rudders and the immediate need at hand, and considering the lead time to have one made, a quick decision is needed. The folks at Ida Sailor are NA's and not just fiberglass technicians. They have testing facilities, engineers and structure folks on the staff. They are big OEM makers for high performance boats. I did some research before contracting them to make the rudder for Blew J. as I wanted to be sure that we were not stepping on the wrong side of the rule and to keep everything as legal as possible. They have a sample "stock" rudder from another boat to compare.
Thanks for all your work to keep this fleet together and competitive for one of the best 30' boats ever made! And to the skippers who strain to get every last drop of performance out of them, you must speak up and let your representatives know that you are counting on their support and giving your support to the good of the fleet.

I spoke to John McArthur on 4/16 to see if he could post something on the status of the one design second source rudder approval.
