The small hatch above the main cabin table has a broken latch, so I can't lock it closed. The best I can do is close it and tighten the round knob on the metal track. I'm noticing that rainwater is getting in because the hatch is not locked closed.

So what are my options? I'd rather not replace and re-bed a new hatch; is it possible to unhinge and replace just the top?

An older thread mentioned a store called Thrifty Mariner which has J/30 hatches but doesn't seem to be in business, at least not at that URL and phone number.

Thanks,

Ryan, Yes, you can remove the top by knocking the hinge pins out but the company (I don't recall if they're still named Bomar) doesn't make that size any more (I asked when I cracked the flange rebedding the hatch). I haven't replaced the smaller hatch yet but I did replace the forward hatch (broken handle) with a drop-in Lewmar. Installation was easy. But hatch is not cheap.

Ryan, just noticed Hamilton Marine carries "Bomar look" molded hatches. Might be worth a call. (800) 639-2715.
