J/30 Class Association Forums J/30 Forum The Boat, Sails and Equipment Jack Lines

Looking for help in the type and position/running of the lines.

I run them from the forward bow cleat down each side outside the shrouds and under all sheets etc.

Then we run them through the nearest stantion base to the priary winches. This keeps the jackline clear of the sheets etc and second if someone falls off the foredeck they only go back to the cockpit vs behind the boat.

From hear we go back to the stern cleats.

They should be at least be made of strong flat webbing, not rope. I bought the Wichard jacklines from Defender and they work very well and they are supple enough to get strong wraps around the cleats.

Also when you run your jacklines you want them very tight, so you can snap them on the deck. when you do this though you need to put a few twist in the line, so you get a twist about every foot and a half. This allows someone with gloves on to pick up the jack line, else it sits flat on the deck and is impossible to get with gloves on.
