I haven't got my mast in yet, but am looking for a hard vang length.

Vic - I've got a Boomkicker model 1500. The rods that come with it are cut to length with a hacksaw when you install it. Here is a link to the picture of a J/30 installation from the boomkicker website. http://www.boomkicker.com/Images/J30prof.jpg
Go to this link and use the dropdown on the left menu to see specs, install info, etc. http://www.boomkicker.com/

Thanks Bill ... Looks like what I need ... I use the main halyard as a spare topping lift when the sail is down ... so I would really only use the kicker during hoisting and dropping the main.

I only use the topping lift now when the weather is really projected to be wild. I keep Rhapsody at the Newport Navy Marina so waters are pretty well protected. You'll find that the boom kicker really helps going down wind in light air.

Bomkicker makes a model specifically for the J/30. The rods are pre-cut to the right length and are sized so the Boomkicker provides the correct resistance. It comes with all of the hardware needed to install it - including the drill and tap.

I ordered mine recently from Mauri Pro Sailing. I paid $230 for the Boomkicker plus $20 for shipping.

It is also essential in light air. It helps keep the boom high to provide twist to the main.
