I recenetly acquired Hull #364. This winter it will begin it's overhaul, In the meantime I discovered a waste tank hose in the port side v-berth locker that is not connected any where. It appears to head toward the front of the waste tank. It is located near the top of the locker. IT is not the one that goes down to the thru-hull with a seacock. I have another thru-hull that is closed off(no hose) near the aft end of the locker. If anyone can tell me where the hose should go and what the thru-hull is for I'd appreciate the help. I'd rather spend as little time as possible exploring the waste system.
thanks
John

Look on my web site at this link: http://j30rhapsody348.blogspot.com/p/rhapsody-j30-rhapsody-maintenance.html
Click on "Sanitary System Piping & Valve Lineup (Excel File)"

This will give you the piping diagram with some pictures I took. Note that not all boats have the same plumbing, so your setup might be different. This may give you an idea though.

On hull #365 the discharge from the head goes to a wye valve in the port locker. The wye valve can direct the discharge to the waste tank or alternatively to the through-hull valve.
Perhaps, a prior owner has eliminated the direct discharge option.

I concur with what was said above.

Depending on where you moor your boat, there can be all manners of red tape regarding overboard discharge, and having a system that is entirely self-contained and not capable of overboard discharge can sometimes ease the process of needing special lockout tags, etc.

Unless you're making long offshore trips, overboard discharge isn't even a legal option, and one might as well not even bother with having it. Old hose can stink, if it is original to the boat it is well past its prime, and it is unnecessary weight in the bow. A previous owner of #337 ran new hose directly from the head to the holding tank. This resulted in plenty of original hose that wasn't connected on both ends and/or wasn't doing anything. So I tore out all the unnecessary old hose connecting the Y valve, vented loop, and thru hull. (I think the vented loop and Y valve themselves have to stay to comply with OD, though, so I left the hardware in place, even though none of the fittings are connected.)
