Thats incredible that Ike took out a Lake Ontario J30 (see other thread with a pic of her on a beach with no keel). Meanwhile I thumbed thru some Houston aftermath photos to discover a J30 floating in a huge pile of flotsam. She was the only floating boat nearby several semi-submerged other boats. She had a very nice bright medium blue paint job. She was floating quite alright. I was unable to ID the boat using our database. Anyone claim her yet? Is she okay? Has the boat been returned to a slip or mooring?

I wanted to clarify that the J 30 in the Lake Ontario thread did not lose her keel, and in fact should be back in action next spring. Most of her damage was cosmetic. Her keel was just hiding below the weedy water. I heard from her owner and he is optimistic about the repairs.

Wow! Weeds?! It sure looked like the Ontario boat was keel-off on the rocks. That is great news that she will be fully repaired. I hope the Houston boat pulls thru. If the only issue you had in your life was your boat got loose, it would be top priority. But when your job, neighborhood, family, school, phones, power, roads etc are all in some state the loose boat may not be top priority.

The J30 you spoted in the hurricane IKE pictures is at the Clear Lake Marina. It is floating and now is tied up at one of the remaining docks. The hull looks OK, but the rudder/tiller is in the cockpit. There may be some other damage. My boat (30 Love, hull 417) did OK with some damage to the starboard side. There is no dock remaining only piles so I use a dingy to get to the boat. The dock next to 30 Love at Watergate Yatching Center was completely destroyed. About 30 boats were totalled. I need a new teak toe rail. Is it easiest to just make one from ruff wood? I have a painter lined up to fix the hull damage. Duck tap comes in 12 inch wide rolls so I can use the boat before it get fixed.
