I'm currently looking at an '81 J/30. I just did a cursorary walk around and have not yet sailed her. Can you give me any tips of what to look for? Currently in fresh water, deck and halyards are dirty, neglect, probably needs a bottom job. Needs a spinnaker, so anyone with a used 3/4 ounce chute give me a price.

under or around 20 grand you take what you get ... over 25 it should be a nice boat around 30 it better be excellent
other than that check the search engine, There is ample information on this board to help you out.

Thanks. I'm in Toronto, so shipping sails that far might negate the benefit. But I do have at least one old chute that is probably pretty tired anyway, and other sails not in use.
You shouldn't have trouble finding used sails for the boat.
