Ike did some Damage on Lake Ontario this weekend. Sadly La Catarina (hull # unknown) broke free from her dock during a 6plus foot storm surge, she slammed into a the stern pulpit of a C&C 33 doing some minor damage, and then she slammed in to floating dock behind her. The pressure on the dock broke it free, along with a pearson 33. The J and the Pearson rode the surge to the beach where they both came to rest on the beach after the water level dropped. The poor J was pinned to the beach by the pearson the dock and the dinghy that was still attached to the pearson. We were able to free the J-30 from the beach as a second surge of water partially floated her. The hull was holed in three spots, all above the waterline. She should be very fixable but is on the hard now. I have pics but I am unsure of how to post them here. I tried a copy and paste but it did not work.
Velocity Girl made it through the storm unhurt. I had her tied to a floating dock with a much higher piling. She road the surge and settled back in as the water dropped. I am currently trying to get info on the owner of La Catarina so we can keep updated on repairs.

Ouch - sorry to hear that. Hurricanes (and their remnants apparently) are rough on the relatively thin-skinned J/30's.
Send the photos to me in an email at ejasonking (at) yahoo (dot) com and I will host them for you so we can post them to this thread.

That's a boat we don't have current status on. Too bad about the damage. Do you know who the owner is?

I am currently trying to get his info and direct him to the Forum so he can get Catarina back in action. Word on the street is he is hoping to do some racing next season. I did hear that the insurance adjuster has already been out to see the boat. Hopefully repairs will start very soon.

I have not heard anything directly from the owner of La Catarina, but I heard through the yard guy that she is not a bad off was originally thought. I will keep you posted.
