Anyone have any helpful advice on how to dry out my rudder? How do I determine if any balsa is rotten? If balsa is not rotten, can I just drill out several small holes in each side and refill after drying? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks a lot.

I used a moisture meter on mine. I also take it off and put in the basement.
I had to drill holes in the bottom to let it drain because I was getting water in from the fittings on the top of the rudder. Rebedded those last year and stoped the water infiltation.

I noticed a link to the autocad drawing for the keel in the other thread. Does anyone know if the rudder profile is included with that drawing as well? (sorry - don't have autocad or .dwg viewer on this PC). If not, any knowledge of where to find an autocad file for the rudder?
thanks! - Jeff

Jeff - I just emailed Harley Nethken to see if he has the Autocad file for the rudder. He was the one who provided the keel in Autocad format. I uploaded the rudder cross sections in Excel format along with the 2008 Class Drawings and Specifications. Download this PDF file, then you'll find an attached Excel spreadsheet with the info. http://j30.org/html/technical/J30-2008-Dwgs-Specs.pdf That is the direct link to the file you navigate to using the menu from the home page under "Class", "J/30 Drawings & Specifications" Bill
