My 3/4" propeller shaft broke at the forward flange for no apperant reason. Anybody know the length and any critical specs. on the shaft, as I will need a new one cut to size from a blank stock. The family says it has to be up and running by next weekend to watch the Christmas lights!
Thanks. Pangea, #21

I just replaced mine. If you have a fax I can send you drawing I made for machinist. Incidentally, I replaced because keyed coupler was siezed to shaft - had to cut off to replace stuffing box. Replaced with split coupler so future service would be easier. Make sure alignment is OK. hunter@i-stat.com.

Shaft LOA on #270 is 42.25". Shaft machinists should know what taper and key size to use. If you replace coupling, they will need pilot hole diameter to fit xmission and bolt circle dimensions. You might want to put a collar (i.e., an extra zinc) on the inside to keep the shaft in the boat if it breaks again.

My fax is 805 339-9000. The coupling came free from the transmission ok. Hopefully I won't need to replace it. I have dripless, PYI stuffing box which helped keep the shaft where it belongs. The zinc in front of the strut is also keeping it in the boat. I am scheduled to haul out Wed. Hopefully a one day job. Thanks for the help and advice... Mike
