J/30 Class Association Forums J/30 Forum The Boat, Sails and Equipment Shroud replacement

I am looking for recommendations regarding replacement of the upper and lower shrouds. The turnbuckles on Quicksilver appear to be Navtec C500 S.S. turnbuckles. Has anyone replaced these with another type such as the Johnson Marine or Alexander Roberts toggle jaw/swage style? Any comments on breaking strengths between the two styles?

Am I to believe no one has replaced their standing rigging? I keep hearing it should be replaced about every 10 years and I know Quicksilver's is the original equipment. Since she was commissioned in '81 I am thinking it is about due. Any thoughts?

When I replaced my standing rigging in 1998 the rigging shop that did the work recommended that I replace the Navtec turnbuckles with an open style stainless steel brand that they carried. The shop was a Navtec dealer but thought the open style were more than adequate for the job and only cost about half as much. I'll try to figure out the brand next time I'm at the boat.

Ordered my lower-shrouds there last year and they work fine (open turnbuckle is easier to adjust)

Thanks for the Hallspars tip. It looks like it may be the way to go. I didn't see a mention of the Gibb-T ends or toggles. Are they complete assemblies? Was the fit right on?

they want to know the size of the hole the toggle fits in .According to the guy at hallspars (who owns a j-30) not every j-30 has the same hole diameter. After that the fit was right on.
