Hi from England

I'm thinking of buying a J30. Are there any pros or cons regarding the early/later model cockpit layouts?

TIA

i have an '83. i like the layout over pre-80 or 81 layouts w/ the traveler track in the open. my cockpit has teak combing ... i don't know if that was original equipment or installed afterward. it looks nice but is a hastle to work around when racing. also, the original travel cars are not very good. i replaced the travel system w/ a harken mid-size windward/leeward system wich is really nice.

The difference is roughly 10000 dlr.

The newer boat has a bigger cockpit which is somewhat nice of course, plus a bigger kitchen ( less one sleeping space ) \
The coming in the cockpit is a little higher also

We have the tweener version - 83 model with new cockpit and older style interior. We like it best of all! The newer style cockpit is better for racing/cruising as it has more room to maneuver around people. The older style interior affords one more sleeping space. I've been in both interiors and can't see what is the advantage of the newer interior. Seems like it makes the interior seem a lot smaller.
