While going up the mast last fall, I noticed that the top cover to my steaming light (on the front of the mast -- Hull #352) was missing. I rigged a makeshift waterproof arrangment but now I want to do the job right. Here are my questions:

1. Who made the steaming light?

2. Can a new top cover be ordered or do I need to replace the whole works?

3. What size bulb fits the steaming light part of the fitting?

4. If a new unit must be installed, is it possible to splice the wires right at the mast without having to remove the entire stick?

I know there was a thread on the old forum for this replacement. Maybe someone can answer these questions before I go up the mast in a few weeks.

Thanks

Bob Rude

It's a Forespar Combination Deck / Bow Light. West Marine had parts when I had the same problem.

the cap's part number is: forsp132016

I obtained the replacement Forespar unit from Defender. It was significantly less expensive than West Marine. Havent installed it yet so I cant help you in that area. Keep us posted on how it turns out.

There are 2 very common deck/steaming lights. The Forespar light which is the one previonsly mentioned and one by Aqua Signal.
The Forespar unit mounts to the mast with 4 fasteners and the bracket is some what universal to the front of the mast. The body is round and uses a round cap and lens.
The Aqua Signal has a shape that is round in the front and flat against the mast. The mount is 2 fasteners and the plastic flaps must be bent to fit the curve of the mast. To do that you must heat the flaps to make the bend.
You can pick up both replacement lenses at West or others. While doing that as usual replace the bulbs (the deck light is Halogen so don't touch the bulb with your fingers, use a rag).
If the unit needs replacement definetly go with the Forespar. The mounting is far better.
