Can the lift top chart table be removed under class rules, and if not can it at least be taken off and stored on quarter berth ?

Mine is about to fall off, nad it is quite franly an annoyance in getting to the ice chest anyway.

My personal interpretation of the rules is no it can't be removed but should be repaired. However I would get an official ruling. Quotes from the 2005 rules:

1.5 These Class Rules, however complete, cannot anticipate every situation which may arise. Owners should assume that anything not specifically permitted is prohibited until a ruling by the Chief Measurer is obtained.
....
5.3 Interior Equipment supplied with the standard boat from the factory may not be deleted or substituted for except by equivalent items of comparable weight (e.g. the stove). Optional equipment offered by the builder or comparable equipment installed by the dealer or owner is permitted as are other items such as shelves or drawers to personalize the interior.

Standard interior equipment includes (but is not limited to) the following:
· cushions for all berths and settees
· stove
· bulkhead door
· water tank
· holding tank
· folding tables except main cabin table
· storage bin covers

No the chart table cannot be removed. It is not an option so it must be on board and in the original location covering the ice box.

Since mine came out completely Sunday afternoon, does antone have any tips on reattachment methods that make the getting to the ice chest less of an ordeal?

Phil and Larry,

I too encountered difficulties with my chart table during the NOODs. While the table has not come detached, a screw that holds the track to the wood veneer in the cabin came loose and is in the track. Net result is that the table is stuck over the ice box by this loose screw.

I can access the ice box by lifiting the table up slightly, but there is not much clearance. Does anywone have any experience with removing or clearing the chart table track when the table is stuck in place by a dislodged screw in the track??

My solution on Sunday when the table was stuck halfway open and I couldn't move it in either direction was to unscrew the the screws I could get to, and pull the table, track & remaining screw off with brut force -after which I rewarded my self with a now available cold beer.

I am going to the boat this weekend to see if there is a way to attach the table so that it will just swing up instead of slide back to access the ice chest. If not I may just attach the darm thing with velcro when racing and leave it ashore otherwise.

I was hoping there might be some good alternative, but was prepared that this might be the case. I guess I will add this to the short list of things I have queued up for maintenence.
