I have worked with the Marblehead Race Association (MRA) and they would love to have the J/30's in Northern New England join the fleet. This would allow us to have OD racing every Sat if we want - however that is not what I am proposing. What they are looking for is for us to race once a month. The J/105's race once a month and they would like us to race one of the other weeks that the 105's do not race. This would give us a potential of 4 OD races and includes entry into the NOODs.

We need 5 boats to compete and with the growth in our fleet this should be a reality.

I need to let them know by Feb 26th if we are interested. I will also work with them to get the firm racing dates.

Please, Please, Please let me know if you are interested.

David - I am sure I would like to participate if my schedule allows. Love to get together at the BYC some time over drinks to discuss. (I have so many boat questions to ask you still).

David - Viva from the South Shore would be interested in participating as long as everyone is comfortable with our 155% roller furling genoa and Pentax main sail. Everything else is standard OD. The only other consideration would be conflicting Mass Bay and Hingham Bay PHRF weekend events. Do you have a tentative calendar in mind for the J/30 racing sponsored by MRA ?

I can't guarantee that Viva would be able to make every one of the J/30 races up in Marblehead, but we would certainly try to participate in at least 2 of the 5 races (1 being the NOODs).

I have forwarded your email to the other 3 J/30's in Hingham/Hull Bay to gauge interest and asked them to chime into this forum with their thoughts. Also, a District meeting in Mid-March would work for us. Great to see our local fleet is growing !

Jon - Since many PHRF races are run on Sun here in Marblehead what I thought would be to go over the schedule and see if there are weekends that also have races on Sun that would be interesting for boats coming from Hingham/Hull. You could race two days. We can also always find moorings and the BYC is a great place to call home for the night.

The people that I have spoken with (including myself) have no problem with the sail configuration you have. The goal is for us to get together and have some fun. I think consesus is that High Tech main with the smaller genoa is equal to a lager genoa with dacron main - or at least close enough that good sailing will make the difference.

For starters it looks like we have 2-3 that would come from Hingham, 2-3 from Marblehead. This is a great start.

How do those dates look?

Also here is the Marblehead Race Association website with notice of race and schedule.

As a note to this everyone that is going to sail - even if it is just the NOODs - needs to register and pay the registration fees prior to sailing. Also there is a late fee for registering after May 1. Please visit http://www.mheadrace.org/ for more info. We will be sailing on the Midway line.

Your NOOD registration is included in the MRA fee. The total MRA fee is less than what you will pay just for NOOD registration so that is the way to go if you think you will only race the NOODs.

David -
Viva is in from the South Shore. We sent in our MRA dues earlier this week. We hope to get up to as many of the Midway line starts as possible... NOODs for sure. We will probably take you up on your BYC mooring offer.
