Ok - So we can do the NA's here in Marblehead either on Aug 20-22nd or Sept 10-12th 2010. I have heard positives and negatives for each. There is more wind in Marblehead in Sept but Aug is a great time to be here also. So I want to Poll boat owners on when would be the best time.

The Poll is open until the end of the Month.

Cheers David

Further to David's message, I think it would be a good idea for people to indicate their potential participation in the 2010 NAs, along with how you plan on delivering your boat

Here is some email traffic with questions and answers that people might like to see.

First the questions:

Before I voted on the date I would like a little discussion. I plan to attend and will trailer my boat to the NAs and have voted so on the site. I guess I have some questions for David. If we came to Marblehead for the NOOD in late July is the a yard were I could store Smiles on a trailer with the mast up for the time between the NOOD and the NAs? If this was possible, I may be in favor or the July dates. What's the sailing like in Marblehead in July and August. Is the any breeze?

The Reply from David Bows:
In general the sailing is good all summer. There is a nice gradient that fills in after lunch - but like most places there can be days when it is too light to sail.

Here is a link to the historical wind data for the nearest NOAA bouy.
http://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/data/climatic/44013.pdf

So if you go to page 24 there is the historical probability chart for the summer months. To summarize:

1 - 3 knots = 8.6 % chance
4 - 6 knots = 24.6% chance
7-10 knots = 37.3% chance
11-15 knots = 21.3% chance

So you have a pretty good chance the wind will be above 7knts.

I think we can find somewhere to store the boat. I can also try and get a mooring for you for not cost on the Salem side of Marblehead which is well protected and close to Luke's yard so if there is a store we can get it out.

Email questions from Bengt Johansson
David, thanks for the very useful information.
I don't know if this is the forum or the time to bring up the question of dates. The two dates listed are just about the same time as school starts and make it difficult to attend if you have kids in elementary school. As it stands now there is less than 5% chance we can attend the August dates and no chance for the September dates.

Is it possible to get an earlier date for NA's? We would also be interested in both NOOD and NA's if they are reasonable close and boat/trailer storage can be arranged.

****REPLY - UPDATE *******

Ok So it looks like Aug is a good Month. I have had request to look into earlier Aug so that boats could come do the NOODs the last weekend in July and then keep the boats in M'head until the NA. We might be able to do it the first week of Aug would people be interested?

David
