Howdy folks. I'm a sailor and looking for a good J30 so I'll be picking your brains in hopes of getting my questions answered. I'll make sure to search old posts for answers_but please bear with me if I bring up an old topic.

RE: trailering a J30. Due to the wide beam, are there any kind of limitations/restrictions/permits required for trailering the boat?

Would it be better/easier to hire a transport company?

Thanks
Gruntled

Here is an article from the web site under Info->Articles of Interest.

http://www.j30.org/html/technical/articles/trailering.html

If it comes with a trailer and you have driven a boat this large on a trailer then you should trailer it. Else I would just have someone else deal with it.

Good luck with your search. Where are you located?

Located in San Francisco bay area. Thanks for your help.

I've noticed several posts about re-coring. Is this a usual problem with the J30?

As with a lot of cored boats prior to SCRIMP, there are some boats that have core issues. A few with serious issues, some with minor and a lot with no issues. A lot depends on how well the boat has been taken care of. Were chainplates maintained, port lights sealed, leaks taken care of properly etc.? The one bad spot that must be looked at is around the exhaust. Many boats have no issue here but others are in tough shape but all are repairable.

Thanks, that's good to know. I'm sure a survey would detect those problems. I'd rather find a boat without those problems (or repaired). I'd rather spend the time sailing than working at the boatyard.
