This one caught me by surprise ... factory installed extra water tank on Vee Jay 2.

Bill thinks I should take it out for the extra space ...

I'm thinking a long distance race with a long port tack run.

Mallorca has the same setup. Love it for cruising - no way I would take it out. There is so much room already on the boat.

White dolphin has the same thing. I've given it a lot of thought:

-good: lots of water (when we weekend, its really nice)

-bad: when tanks are anything close to full, boat lists to port (we compensate by storing everything with any weight on starbard side) Of course the extra weight is not fast, but you can always just run the water before race.

-bad: the 2nd tank blocks the drain hole that most folks run the auto bilge pump hose out. there are no good options for running hose out the starboard side, so i am still w/o an auto pump

-bad: less storage (but we dont miss it)

Overall - I like the tanks (nothing beats a hot shower at anchor in the winter).

Rauzer II has the auto bilge pump drain hose running on the starboard side and connecting to the anchor well drain with a 'T' and an anti-syphon loop in the hanging locker.
FYI

I feel I have been cheated with my one lonely tank.

BTW bilge pumps should really exit well above water line.

Check blog. Ladders done. Need to refinish tiller next.

On Rhapsody I was able to get the auto bilge pump 3/4" flexible hose snaked through the setee bilge drain and under the water tank. The water tank on Rhapsody has some clearance
under it. Just wedge the tank upward while running the hose. Look a the Rhapsody Bilge Pump Install presentation pages 5 & 6 to see how the hose is run. I used a wire to snake it through the slotted bilge drain cutout, then attached that to the hose and pulled it through. It was attached by putting a hole through the hose end and threading the wire through it so it had a strong connection to pull on.

Thanks Bill - I didnt realize that coudl be done - I am going to take a look this weekend.

I think that if i can get a hose to the port side, i will probably go ahead and just run it all the way aft.

I've never been too keen on anchor locker drain idea, although it does seem perfectly sound.

I do have a friend to was once awoken at anchor in his S2 9.1 by water saturating his berth; he had a below-the-waterline pump exhaust with a siphon break which was misfunctioning. The automatic smaller pump could not keep up with the heavy flow from the much larger manual pump that was siphoning - luckily he was on the boat, and at the dock!

Dan - that's why I like the dishwasher connection on the sink drain for the small bilge pump discharge. It already is above the waterline and is a natural vacuum break for anti-siphon. no new holes to drill in the hull and the parts are readily available at home depot!

Salsa Verde also has 2 tanks, and I always wondered if it was normal! I ran my auto bilge pump through the same tube as the manual pump and I can still use the manual pump through it if I need to. Maybe not the best setup, but better than just a manual pump when you live 1.5h away from your boat!

Thanks Bill ... On 526 today, I was able after 5 minutes of blindly fishing from one side to realize that I would be better off fishing from both sides under the water tank ... was able to get a 1/2 in. line under the tank once both probes hit each other. On 505 I had to use a chisel to get the opening wide enough for 3/4. But this pump is 1/2 out which is good just to keep the teak and holly from a little overflow.

As I currently have access to the transom will run it out next to the manual with a loop.

I almost could have forced the 1/2 tube through the conduit behind the ice box on the stb side where the two diesel lines are ... that would have been a fall back option. It went in about 12 in. but started to give a problem ... and the drain next to the fuel tank also needed some clearing out.

having had to clean out the anchor well with a hose to get it clear of mud and drain a week ago I would not vote for Ting into that line.
