Looking for economy boat name lettering led to me Ebay where I picked up two sets of letters for the Vee Jays ... twin boats required twin lettering ... Yes it is a bit big ... but I like the Coast Guard to be able to find me when I call for them.

For relative size the V and the J measure 8 in. high and the ee and ay are 6 in. high ... Newport RI is 3 in high.

Unfortunately some of these lettering shops have a bit of a problem with letter size. Generally if you say 8 in. it is the size counting {bg} the top of the b to the bottom of a g for example. and a 8 in. high Capital letter is less than 8 in. high. I had to do some squeezing to fit these letters on one by one.

Cost plus postage for the both sets was under $40. For those of you who do sides of boats can probably reletter under $60.

I used really simple type because that's what I like ...

Standard stick on vinyl.

I just had a need for vinyl lettering for another project...a very large rocket! I used Kinko's for the lettering. They do it cheaply -- $10/sq ft and it was ready overnight, plus they've got hundreds of locations, maybe thousands now that they've merged with FedEx.
