They are small gauge wire connectors for things like communication cables, (phone, gps, autohelm...). Insert two wires, squeeze the button with pliers and the conncection is made without stripping the covers or anything.

you would have thought that (I now think Raymaine) would have not just put four in a plastic bag and not said what they were for or how to use them. light weight butt connectors that look funny.

They look like electrical connectors. Place the insulation free ends of the two wires to be connected into a unit, then depress the "red" dot to fuse together.
