Last week on another boat's yahoo group I follow I saw a clip using the ContourHD camera. So off to ebay for a camera for $213 delivered. [it's the low end unit and all that is needed to do Youtube] I'm going to have to cut out a couple of weeks breakfast at McDs. It arrived in time to "play" with it at the Avow Regatta.
The camera straps to a helmet or goggles ... or in my case a military cloth snapbuckle belt that circled my white cap-which you can see in the video.
Depending on the speed of your connection the video may take a couple of minutes to load via youtube ... but once loaded will play straight through. So load them in a second window while doing something else.
I like it because I can clip the "good" episodes for further use by new crew to show them how something works more or less.
Of course it also shows what the skipper is doing and looking at ... and maybe a few thoughtless remarks are picked up by the onboard mike.
it takes a few hours for youtube to fine tune the images when you send them in. but I think they are pretty close to final now.
Vic, That camera is awesome. What a great teaching tool! Make sure you pack that cam in your bag when you head North! ps...make sure you know where the committee boat is at all times...LOL
this one shows how you can hand the camera to someone and they can just aim it like a gun. there is no viewing screen but it is supposed to be somewhat weatherproof. F31 sea trial today off Naples with decent SE wind from storm and reasonably flat Gulf. nice sustained GPS speeds 17+ kts
