We're getting closer to making the class flag offering a reality. Dave Erwin and I are following up with a "qualified flag supplier". We want to confirm the following or change as appropriate. If somebody has a class flag who would measure and verify the information it would be helpful. Please post here to confirm or modify the information as appropriate. Class Flag "Specs" - Material - Marine Grade Nylon (fade resistant and water repellent)
- Color - solid background White, Blue, Red or Green with J/30 Logo in any of the same colors contrasting the background.
- Dimensions: 30 inches tall, x 24 inches wide
- All edges folded over and sewn, or heat sealed to prevent fraying
- Edge by halyard reinforced and either grommets or sewn in loops top and bottom for halyard attachment
Also - is there any interest in a larger class flag - say 5 feet x 3 feet to hoist up the flag pole at YC for events?

I used to have a J flag, but I remember it was bigger than 2 ft wide ... with the luff cut at a diagonal so it flew straight off the forestay. 30 x 24 30 ft off water isn't really a major statement. US flags minimum to look OK are 3x5 ft.
So if we fly it at spreader level ... say under power I wonder how much width it would take to still be clear of the mast?
And I think it used a #6 luff tape to slide into foil as one of those pictured seem to be.
[this was before I got roller furling ... so I wouldn't opt for the luff tape with a furler, but it does fly a lot better locked into the foil.]

Ok - Narrowing down standard size and most popular colors. Based on responses so for the following looks to be the most popular colors: - Blue letters on White (Overwhelming favorite)
- Red letters on White
- White letters on Red
- White letters on Blue
We'd have these colors "stocked" and others by special order (longer lead time and probably a little more expensive for special order) Two styles have been suggested. - Free Flying Rectangle approx 30" tall x 24" wide
- Headfoil Attached Parallelogram with #5 luff tape that is approximately 65" along the luff, 28" width at top, 61" along the leach, and 47" along the foot.
What are peoples preferences on size and style of attachment? We are investigating whether these would be ordered through the J/30 Class, or work with a supplier who you order from directly. If the latter, there may be more flexibility to buy other J/30 logo stuff too.

Bill:
I'll take one of the free-flying ones. Blue letters on white, please.
Thanks.
