Is this the pump that is most likely in my 1982 boat? I wanted to buy a rebuild kit to keep onhand but could not find any identifying marks on the pump...

Yes - the Whale Gusher 8 MkII is most likely the pump you have.

on 505 the original was a Henderson Mark V. At least that is what I replaced last year. I had seen some of the black plastic pumps from 30 years ago showing some cracking and didn't have easy access to a rebuild kit ... so just grabbed a near by WM Gusher low end. But even then they had to order the thru deck version. And they carried the rebuild kits for that gusher.
The Henderson is clearly marked.
I replaced some completely "unmarked" pumps on other boats last year and they did seem to be old Gushers... naturally with no indication of the rebuld kit and no hint if a new kit would rehab an old pump.

I have the Whale Gusher 8 on Nordic Star. During the installation of the rebuild kit I saw some cracks in the "valve body" housing and would like to replace the whole pump. The 8 seems to be out of production. What has anyone used as a replacement pump that won't require ugly surgery to mount it?
Also no gaitor was included in the kit from West Marine.

Whale Urchin thru deck mount seems to work and is pretty common on ~30 ft new boats. most WM don't stock the thru deck, and have to order it from "the Warehouse"
but they do carry the repair kits same as for the surface mount. I used the thru deck on 505 and 526. has a pretty plastic cover but kind of flimsy.
existing hole was ~ok ... have to redrill mounting holes and fill old bolt holes to position it ok.
