By my analysis and observation, the fuel consumption is reasonable at any RPMs under full throttle. If you are 50 rpm under firewall, you are using all available fuel. I you are firealled, you maybe giving the engine more than it has the capability of using efficiantly. Watch for smoke and soot on transom.
