I can adjust the maststep as long as I loosen off the shrouds and turning a bolt at the step.

Question on the North tuning guide - the version I've found here and elsewhere recommends a base setting, then has a chart showing adjustments based on wind speed...but the chart is blank???
Does anyone have these missing measurements?
thanks - djm

whitedolphin-with the spring loaded loos gage and a set of North sails, I start with a base of about 1700/1700. If chop is up, in base conditions (10-12) I'll keep the outers at 1700 and slack the inners to about 1500 to give more punch to the rig. 0-5 I go off the scale at the low end-I shoot for about 700 outers, 500 inners-but it's hard to tell. 5-7, 1100 outers, 850 inners. 7-10, 1500 outers, 1200 inners. 12-15 1900/1900 (again, if chop is up, I go a little softer on the inners), 15-18 2000/2000, 18 plus 2100/2100, plus a taut backstay and about 5 turns in on the headstay. I'm not sure whether this matches the North tuning guide-but the trend has been to lighter settings across the spectrum since many of the tuning guides were written. And remember-if your mast butt is not EXACTLY one inch back from the step in the cabin sole in the head-all the tuning guides will be useless.

Thanks Steve - just want I was looking for.
Question - any idea what 5 turns does to your rake/forestay total length? I've got a harken furler (and all headsails recut to fit), so I'm sure your 5 turns isnt my 5 turns.

I ave a copy of the North Guide I got from Larry Leonard at the North Annapolis loft last year. I would be happy to send you a PDF copy if you send me your e-mail address to me at pheldrich@yahoo.com

Is there any danger to the rig if you have set your shrouds to the settings as described above in Steve Buzbee's text for 5-7Kts and during the race the winds unpredictably increase to 15-18kts?...Or is it no danger , but you just don't have the optimum settings _) Taras

Taras - there is no danger, you just don't have optimal rig tune.

Anyone have a problem keeping thire rig in column with exact tention on port and stb shourds?
I am about 200-300lbs higher on my stb upper to keep it in column. Backstay-mainsheet-main haylard is blown off.
Maybe I have shroud/rig damage? Or step is off to stb??

Check to see that the tip and the mast at the partners are both centered. By that I mean centered in the boat, not necessarily in the hole through the deck which itself might not be centered. Even all appears equal, it might be that you'll need to block the mast on one side of partners in order to equalize the tension on the uppers. The North tuning talks about getting "mast and the keel on the same vertical plane" something to try next time the boat is out of the water.
