J/30 Class Association Forums J/30 Forum The Boat, Sails and Equipment Transducers that fit original DataMarine mounting tube?

My original DataMarine transducer mounts (or "tubes") are flush mounted: they are actually recessed into the hull and glassed over so no mounting flange is exposed.

I recently started moving to TackTick gear and until I tried it, it looked like the Airmar transducers were the same size. Unfortunately it turns out that the Airmar stuff is the tiniest bit smaller diameter than the orginal DM stuff. The threads at the top are even the same, but I get a steady trickle of water when installed.

Has anyone experienced this? I'm hoping there is a transducer out there that will fit the same mount - I really don't want to have to redo/or undo the speedy flush mounting.

I'm half-tempted to go buy some thicker o-rings and see if I can get it to work - I already take the speed transducer out after every race - I supposed I could do the same with depth.

Dan - are you reusing the old housings (tubes)? If so, you probably can't do that due to different inside diameters. You can buy the flush mount Airmar housing from Defender. The housing should be properly bedded with 5200 so it won't leak.

In the interim, you might try the oversized o-rings or as an alternate build up the ID of the housing with a thin layer of plastic sheet like used for laminating paper. If you do this waterborne, you will need to blank off the hole from underneath.

Yeah, was hoping to not touch the tubes - sounding like the o-rings might be a good temporary compramise

when I fitted tacktick the transducer came with two different O rings depending on the tube used.
