I sail Crusader from the Oswego YC. The past few years there has not been any OD J/30 racing in the Eastern Great Lakes District. THere have been many rgattas where we have 3 - 4 J/30's in a PHRF division sailing 135 and usually do very well and have a tight split with boats from 128-141.
At Oswego we have 5 J/30's, 3 race PHRF weekly at OYC, 2 travel(Crusader abd Blaze- Brendan) to Lake wide regattas ( and do very well in PHRF) 1 no longer races and 1 races locally on occassion - looking to sell.
There is one in Port Ontario (Selkirk YC) to the east that cruises and will show up for a OD event for numnbers.
Velocity Girl ( Cannan) is in Henderson Harbor and as Bubba (Forrest Gump) would say " That's about it !
As Cannan Stated I have trailer my boat to the past 2 J/30 NA's . What a fabulous experience. In 2008 we started in a 25 boat fleet. 2009 was smaller at 15. If you plan it out and budget for it it's affordable, Obviously less expensive if you have atrailer and someone who can tow it.
Brendan and I would LOve to see more OD racing in the district - any ideas you have would be appreciated.
Both of us have done the Level Regatta in Youngstown, NY , could you get do that regatta ?
