Anybody happen to know the size of the screw on the shroud's turnbuckles?

Replacement Turnbuckle Screw 3/8" pin for 1/4" wire. Navtec Part D320-S12, West Marine SKU: 166506

At a a little over one year in service, these turnbuckles have become impossible to tighten as much as needed to reach standard high wind tune, starboard side worse than port. I believe they are nickel plated bronze. Sprayed with McLube but no help. Any suggestions?

Bob - I'd back them off completely, use a wire brush to clean the threads, then use a combo of graphite and light machine oil to run the threads through. Clean it up, then reinstall and see how that works.

Did those come from Hall? this was what they gave me 7 years ago and now sitting in tropic conditions since then. we kick them with WD40 once a year on our annual tune which is coming up mid November once Brian, skipper of J/30 Hornet gets here.

It is the style with the screw in the center. Mast came from Hall through Annapolis Rigging who did the shrouds. Replaced the center screw when the square part in the middle became too loose to allow adjustment. Also noticed later that one of the two screws had a bit of bend.

Roger, roger ... I think that was the reason Hall upgraded to the larger turnbuckle. But before you think I am endorsing Hall they built me two forestays a week apart when I upgraded 505 and 526 roller furlings ... and they were built to different specs. One fit fine and the other we had to customize with a grinder because of different fittings.

But the turnbuckle I have on 505 is the one photo in my post above and as you can see is big screwdriver tune-able.

As I remember a big, strong vise grip on that center that is slipping makes it work, but I wouldn't want to do that for every race.

Mine are starting to show corrosion and I am thinking waterproof trailer hitch grease.

Try Lanicote{?} It's made for this usage.

Does anyone have a source for the navtec eye end toggle section of the turnbuckle. We lost one of the backstay ones overboard. We still have the turnbuckle screw just not the lower toggle end. Thanks, Sam

Navtec gave me the name of a local rigger who found one locally. Navtec still makes these in batches. I did find a couple retailers on the west coast who came up on my internet search too.
