Any one have information on recomended rig tensions (using Quantun sails) with the mast in the original position (not moved back)?

What about Shaking caused by the tuff luff flapping in strong winds when tied to the dock? The shaking of the rig seems alarming and certainly adds to bedding failure around the chainplates? Any Advice?

For Quantum sails, I would consult your Quantum rep. Here in Annapolis, there are a lot of folks using Quantums. They probably have put together a sail tuning guide. For a more generic guide, the Banks sails guide is available on this site at www.j30.org/html/technical/tuning_guide.html

To prevent the headfoil from slapping, we wrap the spinnaker pole topping lift around the headfoil then clip it to the pole downhaul. The slight amount of tension on the line prevents the plastic extrusion from flapping about.

A little bit of backstay tension will also help with forestay slapping. Dont leave it on all the time though. Just when the wind is supposed to be up.

A small piece of sail tape with a WELL sealed end (so it comes out) with grommet holes slipped into the foil held about Half way up w/ the pole lift and down with a small line to the deck pad eye stops mine from rattling.

The pole topping lift idea works really well.

If it still bothers you when you sleep on the boat I reccomend taking two Tylenol PM. They will give you a good night sleep especially when it is really windy or dead calm and 100 degrees. Don't laugh it works.
