We ripped this hatch right out of the deck tensioning a fouled jib halyard at the leeward mark during the NOOD. I figure it's one of these, anyone know which? (And yes I did search the forum.): Bomar/Gray/Pompanette 900 series Or should I go for a low profile Lewmar like we have on the bow?

Bob,
I replaced the same size one over the head a year or two ago and found the only drop in replacement was the Bomar. The other manufacturers hatches would require some modifications to the cut out. Things may have changed. I found Fawcett's to be pretty helpful reviewing catalogs and reasonable on price with our discount.

I replaced with the lewmars and if you use the ones without flanges then it fits perfectly.

Tom & Dave, either of you know the part number you used? Didn't get a chance to measure Wednesday night, what with the MOB drill and all. Since the original lasted 27 years, think it's worth paying more for the more durable Lewmar?

I've broken the handle on the hatch in the head. Might any of you with busted hatches have saved a handle that I might be able to buy off you?

depending on how you use the boat ... in my case racing and day sailing with very marginal use of the head ... I drilled a hole though the hatch and bolted it down. 5 min job. That handle no break no mor.

Good idea but I would rather the hatch function as we cruise the boat in the summer as well.
