Thanks russ, the notches are a source of concern for me too, though maybe I can explain a little. I didn't cut all the way through the beams, the keel bed is welded to the bottom 90 degree portion and three inches of the center portion of the beam are welded to the sides of the channel. I'll include pictures. I'm figuring the downward force or flex generated by the boat weight will be offset by the sides of the keel channel. That being said, I was planning to weld some notched plate steel at each of the connections to further reenforce the area.
