J/30 Class Association Forums J/30 Forum The Boat, Sails and Equipment backstay set-up

Thanks to everyone who provided info. I went with "Option 2" - 4:1 purchase. It was installed this morning and "tested" this afternoon. There is minor interference with the rudder at the extreme ends, but very easy to override past the adjustment lines. The temporary line is cheap 1/4" stuff I got at Home Depot that will be replaced with a better quality 5/16" line. Here are pictures of the setup:
